Puerto de la Cruz is a wonderful city for your yoga practice. It is small and quiet and full of beautiful places with views over the sea and mountains. It has the best climate in the world and allows you to practice all year round outdoors at a nice temperature between 15 - 25 degrees. It rains only very few days and the sun is most of the time not to strong. Humidity is also not too high. I found it very nice that there are barely no mosquitoes or other biting insects that could disturb your outdoor practice. Actually Tenerife is the perfect place for all kind of open air activities. You love green forests? We have it! You love rocky high mountains? We have it! You love dry wide desert? We have it! You love long sandy beaches? We have it! You love small rocky bays? We have it! White sand, black sand, volcanoes, canyons, meadows...we have it all. Stunning views included.

Puerto de la Cruz (or just Puerto for the islanders) is small but never boring due to the steady flow of tourists. There are many small restaurants and bars where you can enjoy good fresh food for all tastes and and good prices (around 10€ for a good big meal). More and more vegetarian and vegan options are available every time.
Discovering hidden spots for your peaceful practice
For your practice I want to show you in further posts my favorite places in Puerto. Especially if you are looking for some quiet and hidden places with no tourists, it can be a hard job sometimes or especially when you don't know the city well. But they exist and even more than you could think. Usually I am looking for places where I can be mostly alone and enjoy stillness and at the same time I Am looking for something beautiful like an open view to the mountains or sea or just trees and nature around me. The good thing is, that on a small island with very high mountains you will find these sea-views and mountain-views nearly everywhere. But to find stillness in a touristic city is sometimes not so easy.
My favorite spots are very diverse and going from rooftops over abandoned streets, parks, beaches, volcanoes, canyons and cliffs. Everything just a stroll away from the crowded city center. You should like walking. It is the best and most beautiful way to get to your yoga places. Parking your car close to some of my favorite places could be as adventurous as your first Sirsasana or just annoying. As I do not have a car myself I will always prefer to explain you the way to get there by foot, bicycle or by bus. Of course this is as well the healthiest, cheapest and most eco-friendly way.
So as soon as I get my camera ready I will start showing you the best yoga places in my current hometown Puerto de la Cruz.
Until then, Namaste. Om Shanti. Lina
